Elements and Principles of Art

 Description:

For this project we covered all of the elements and principles of art. We had to take 12 different pictures to show the elements and principles. At the end of this project we made a presentation and showed our class our pictures.

Extension Activity:

For an extension activity I would have students create a project using at least 5 different elements or principles. Once their projects are done they will share it with the class and have their peers guess which principles they used.

Balance: Asymmetrical vs symmetrical; one side should not seem heavier than another.

This picture represents symmetrical balance because both sides of the picture are even or the same.

Emphasis: The part of the art that catches the viewers attention.

I chose this plant because the green catches the viewers attention because it has the most light and the background is white.

Movement: The appearance of motion in art.

The waterfall has peaks of white which shows that the waterfall is flowing.

Color: An element made up of hue, value, and intensity; examples are red, blue, and yellow.
I chose markers because there are many different shades and intensities.

Pattern/Repetition: An element that is repeated.
I made a pattern with chocolates to represent this principle.
