Day of the Dead - Papel Picado

Description:

For this project we learned about the Papel Picado decorations for the Day of the Dead. We started with picking our tissue paper colors, which all have different meanings, my colors mean celebration and unity. We then picked different designs or shapes we wanted on our paper. To get the different shapes and lines of shape we had to fold the paper a few different times.

Extension Activity:

For an extension activity, students will create a “Papel Picado Story Flag” to reflect on their original design. They’ll write a short explanation of their color and shape choices, then create a new mini flag that illustrates a personal story or message. The class will combine their flags into a collaborative garland to display, highlighting themes of celebration, unity, and cultural expression.
