Hidden Safari

Description:
For this project we started by look at different pictures of the forrest and safari's. We were asked the question "What do you see in this?" before having time to look at the photo in depth for a few minutes. After that we practiced drawing upside down so help us focus more on the lines and curves of a picture. We then made red lens glasses with paper and red, see through film. After this we picked an animal to draw and did so upside down with a light blue colored pencil on a blank white piece of paper. After finishing our animal drawing we took warm colored crayons (red, orange, yellow) and did different patterns/designs over top of our animal. When done with our drawing and pattern we got to look at our drawing through our glasses we made and could see the animal we drew in blue through the red, orange, and yellow patterns. Finally, we wrote on a index card 3 hints about the animal we drew and glued both those pages on the red construction paper.

Extension Activity:
For an extension activity I would do a habitat themed activity which has to do with science. First, I would have the students each choose a habitat (forest, savanna, jungle, ocean, etc.). Next, I would have students use a light blue colored pencil to draw elements of their chosen habitat, this could include trees, grass, water, rocks, etc., on a blank white paper. Then, they would use their warm colored crayons and add abstract patterns or designs over the entire scene. Next, students will use their red lens glasses to see the hidden habitat. After this, students will write a short description of their habitat and have their classmates guess what habitat they chose.
